"We must fit the crops to the environment,
rather than remaking the environment to fit the crops.”

About Us

Founded upon a dream of a healthier life closer to nature, Chelsea & Lorenzo (Chelenzo) moved to New Mexico from New York in 2021 with their family to plant regenerative roots in the Land of Enchantment.

Set in high desert mountains of Cerrillos, New Mexico, Hacienda Domínguez offers guests to experience a farm in action, as well as the opportunity to hike daily on 350 acres just east of the Turquoise Trail (Route 14) and directly above the Galisteo River Basin. Upon the land, nature lovers, hikers and outdoorsmen alike will discover arroyos, caves, mesmerizing 360 degree vistas of the mountains that surround Santa Fe, as well as awe-inspiring sunrises and sunsets.

The Hacienda also offers other regenerative services in partnership with the mecca of holistic-minded neighbors and local businesses we have here in Cerrillos, including massage therapy, horseback riding, soil health workshops, soul-cleansing drum making, sweat hut ceremonies and herbal medicinal opportunities.

At Chelenzo Farms we are applying permaculture, soil health, agroecology and agroforestry principles and are enthusiastic about applying innovative and indigenous practices to achieve our goals.

Our organic research farm serves to educate the community, resolve food insecurity issues and offer training in the areas of permaculture farming, land conservation, indigenous agricultural and sustainability practices, and the realm of sciences that look to understand the relationship (past, current and future) that humans have with nature and the land. We also aspire to contribute to knowledge about agricultural practices that contribute to improved soil health in an arid environment, amidst a 22-year megadrought.

Educational opportunities will be offered to students K-8 in partnership with the local Turquoise Trail Charter School Gardening program, and Keres Children's Learning Center at Cochiti Pueblo, as well as adults via the Worldwide Opportunities in Organic Farming (WWOOF) program and farm stays.

Most immediately, we aspire to rejuvenate the magical landscape into a flourishing garden and small-scale farm replete with edible native plants and trees, such as cacti, agave, succulents, saffron, beans, herbs, various other greens, fruits and vegetables. Currently, our animals include chickens, goats, and ducks, and we intend to acquire more, which we will integrate into our farming practices via grazing and the creation of compost and organic-based soil amendments.

Don Lorenzo Talks with Radio Talkshow Host Estevan Gonzales on KSWV Radio 99.9 FM Santa Fe

For those who didn’t have a chance to listen to our live broadcast on Monday, December 13, 2021, here is a recording of my conversation with Estevan Gonzales, MC of the Morning Show and co-owner of KSWV Suave Radio 99.9FM 810AM along with his wife Adi and brothers Javier and Patricio.

It was a wonderful hour where we talked about everything from what it’s like moving to Santa Fe to start a permaculture farm at Hacienda Dominguez & Chelenzo Farms; to how welcoming and wonderful all my neighbors in Cerrillos, have been; to the unfortunate passing of the Mexican icon and musical legend Vicente Fernandez this past weekend; to remembering the man and music of the late and great patriarch of the Gonzales family, George Gonzales, who started the radio station and served as two-term mayor of Santa Fe (as did his son Javier from 2014-18); to the amazingly creative and close relationship our daughters have who attend Turquoise Trail Charter School.

Many shoutouts were made to friends and family including Chelsea, Kevin and Chris Eide, among so many others.

Please take a listen!

“A quiet secluded life in the country, with the possibility of being useful to people to whom it is easy to do good, and who are not accustomed to have it done to them; then work which one hopes may be of some use; then rest, nature, books, music, love for one’s neighbour—such is my idea of happiness.” — Leo Tolstoy
